A chemist, Marie, and her understudy Jane are working on an experiment. Prior to this picture, Jane had shown up late to their appointment time in the lab. Marie gently scolded her, with an understanding that she is still young. Jane feels the tension and regrets her lateness, but she is still frustrated and would rather be somewhere else at this time even though she loves her work. Marie is glad that she can have an impact on this young person's life, and hopes that Jane will mature through this experience. They continue working, and Marie tells Jane what she is thinking, that she is glad to have her working and understands that Jane is still young. Jane really appreciates the comment and their relationship is closer because of it. She is then glad to be working and puts more effort into the experiment.
